Harteman Wildfowl contributes to the global knowledge and conservation of the world's waterfowl by sharing hands-on experience and participating in ex-situ breeding programmes.
We invite you to join in celebrating the inaugural World Waterfowl Day on 17th January, 2025, an event which we hope will grow and gain international support each year. The day is being established to draw attention to waterfowl and their wetland habitat, and to foster greater public appreciation for these fascinating birds.
World Waterfowl Day Mission:
1. Increase public awareness, knowledge and interest in all species within the order Anseriformes (waterfowl/ wildfowl).
2. Encourage participants to spend time outdoors appreciating wildlife and nature.
3. Create a platform for participating organizations to share their commitment to waterfowl and conservation.
The waterfowl group is comprised of more than 170 species of ducks, geese, and swans in the order Anseriformes. Twelve species are currently considered endangered or critically endangered in the wild. Awareness initiatives, like a national or international day of celebration, can emphasize the importance of waterfowl in the natural world and engage the public in learning about this fascinating group of birds.
Harteman Wildfowl supports World Waterfowl Day and will soon launch one of its campaign actions!
