Mergansers: common and endangered diving ducks

The holarctic Common merganser (Mergus merganser) is, fortuitous, the most common species of mergansers with an increasing population. The Brazilian merganser (Mergus octosetaceus) on the other hand, is critically endangered and its population is still decreasing.
